Initially, the Archdiocese of New York mandated that an adult be present with each child during any virtual religious education class. Many parents expressed concern to us that an adult would not be available to sit with their child during online classes, so we appealed to the ADNY. As a result, the ADNY has agreed that if the catechist and at least one additional adult are present via Zoom virtual classes will meet the ADNY guidelines. At the present time, it is our intention to initiate each class from the Religious Education office with either Fr. Raymond or Ellen Aslanian present to act as the required additional adult so parents do not need to sit with their child during “live” classes. However, please understand that parents still must comply with state and local laws regarding the on-site supervision of minors. By having your child log into the class, each parent shall be deemed to have warranted to us that they are complying with those laws.
We cannot accommodate more than three virtual classes in any one day so our normal class schedule has been spread out over several days. We apologize if the changes to the class schedule cause any inconvenience.
On-line instruction is not ideal and it may be inconvenient for parents/guardians to assist their child with completing assigned work, but it is paramount that you oversee your child’s work given the nature of on-line instruction.
The virtual classes will be recorded so, if your child misses a “live” class, you and your child can view the class within two (2) weeks of the recorded class. If your child does not attend the virtual class, you and he/she will be required to email his/her catechist to state that your child has viewed the recorded class. Your child must be present for at least 90% of the actual on-line classes unless he/she receives special permission from our Religious Education Coordinator because of extenuating circumstances.
Please call the Religious Education Office at 914-472-5594 if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you and God bless.
Yours in Christ,
Reverend Francisco Sebastian Bacatan, Ph.D., A.M.

Disciples of Mary:
Please note that the St. Pius X Religious Education Program follows the Scarsdale School Calendar and the Scarsdale School District weather and emergency closings schedules.
If for any reason the Scarsdale Schools are closed due to inclement weather conditions, the Religious Education Program will close as well. If the Scarsdale schools have delayed start it will not affect our program. If Scarsdale Schools cancel after-school activities due to weather or emergency closing we will automatically close. We will announce closings on WFAS radio or channel 12 News TV. Please remember that it is always a parent’s choice to keep a child home due to bad weather.
When Scarsdale Schools are on Christmas/Winter Break, Mid-Winter, and Easter/Spring Break and holidays the Religious Education Program is on break as well.
