Christian initiation is celebrated in Baptism, the Eucharist and Confirmation. Through these visible actions, a young person is incorporated into the Church and shares its mission in the world. Full initiation into the Church occurs in stages. Sacramental Catechesis has traditionally been of two kinds: preparation for initial celebration of the sacraments and continued enrichment following their first reception. The requirements for the reception of First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation are determined by Canon Law and include:
- Attaining the appropriate age of reason for the sacrament
- Having proper knowledge of the sacrament
- Exhibiting emotional and spiritual maturity
- Having the approval of parents, the pastor, catechists and the Director of the Religious Education Program
Note: The Archdiocese of N.Y. requires two (2) full years in our program for a student to receive his/her First Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation.
