“On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples approached Jesus and said, ‘Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?’ He said, ‘Go into the city to a certain man, and tell him, ‘The teacher says, ‘My appointed time draws near; in your house I shall celebrate the Passover with my disciples.’ The disciples then did as Jesus had ordered, and prepared the Passover.” (Matthew 26:17-19)

Sacristans, under the direction of the pastoral staff, prepare for liturgical celebrations. In particular, Sacristans arrange the liturgical books needed for the celebration, mark all the divisions or readings and lay out vestments and anything else needed for the Mass including cruets, chalices, ciboria, linens, oils, processional Cross and candles. The chief Sacristan is also responsible for the supply of hosts and wine, purificators, corporals, hand towels, incense and coals as well as ensuring that there is sufficient oil in the sanctuary lamp, the altar cloths are changed regularly and the holy water stoup is clean and replenished frequently.

Any adult willing to prepare the Sacristy and church for celebrations will be trained.

Sacristans should be present at least 30 minutes prior to the celebration and remain after Mass to clean/store items used.
