Music

“A psalm. Sing a new song to the Lord, for he has done marvelous deeds. His right hand and holy arm have won the victory. The Lord has made his victory known; has revealed his triumph in the sight of the nations, he has remembered his mercy and faithfulness toward the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God. Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth; break into song; sing praise. Sing praise to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and melodious song.” (Psalm 98:1-8)

The Music Ministry at the Church of Saint Pius X affords parishioners, friends and their families the opportunity to join together in making music to praise God and to help lead worship. People of all ages, backgrounds and levels of musical experience are invited to participate through singing and playing instruments.  All that is required is the willingness to learn and be part of a team.

Our Director of Music Ministries leads the St. Pius X Adult Choir.  The choir meets to rehearse between 7:30 pm and 9:00 pm on Thursday evenings and sings at either the Saturday 5:00 pm Mass or the Sunday Noon Mass from mid-September through early June.  We welcome people who are unavailable to sing with us all season to join our Festival Choir at Christmas, Holy Week, Confirmation and other special liturgies.  High school students are welcome to join the Adult Choir and Festival Choir.

Our Children’s Choir, under the direction of Children’s Choir Director, James Walton, is open to children K-8 and meets to rehearse weekly on Tuesdays from 5:00 to 5:30 pm and sings during the 10:30 am Family Mass on select Sundays throughout the school year.  Children need not be enrolled in our parish’s Religious Education program to participate in the Children’s Choir.

All Religious Education students in grades 1 through 4 have music during their regularly scheduled classes periodically throughout the year to prepare to sing during each grade’s Ministry Mass.  Our 1st and 2nd graders rehearse to sing during the annual Christmas Pageant.  Our 2nd graders learn songs to sing during their First Reconciliation and First Communion liturgies.

Instrumentalists of all ages are welcome to perform solo or in small ensembles at Mass.  Please reach out to our Director of Music Ministries if you are interested in playing your instrument during Mass or before Mass for prelude music.

To participate in any of our Music Ministries, please contact our Director of Music Ministries, David Schmidt at StPiusXMusic@gmail.com or (914) 725-2755, ext 41.
